Bookstart
Helping children discover the joy of reading
Bookstart is a national programme from BookTrust that helps families share books, stories and rhymes with their children from the earliest possible age. Through free book packs and reading resources, Bookstart encourages a love of reading and supports children's language, communication and development before they start school.
At Halton Libraries, we're proud to support Bookstart and help families enjoy reading together from the very beginning.

What's included?
Children receive free Bookstart packs at key stages of their early years journey, packed with books, activities and ideas to make reading together fun and engaging. The programme is designed to help families build confidence, create positive reading routines and enjoy stories together.
Why read together?
Sharing books, stories and rhymes from an early age can help children to:
- Develop language and communication skills
- Build confidence and imagination
- Strengthen family bonds
- Prepare for learning and school life
- Foster a lifelong love of reading
